Copied from a fellow rescuer: Heartworm prevention 💔 below is what it looks like when a dog does not get it. This beautiful, young, seemingly pregnant dog would pass just an hour after this picture, from heartworm disease. She was not pregnant. We see this happen sometimes when rescuing a dog, they sometimes in possibly pregnant, only to uncover they have severe heartworm disease. 📣 PLEASE TALK TO YOUR VET ABOUT THE BEST PREVENTATIVE FOR YOUR DOG AND YOUR AREA. We are seeing news of some preventions NOT working and dogs are still getting HW, in the south. PLEASE consult with a vet for your area. But PLEASE, have ALL of your dogs on a heartworm prevention. From the rescue;🫣 Ya'll need a good reason to put your dog on HEARTWORM PREVENTION?! Or you wonder why our rescue requires adopters do so?! Well here you go, THIS is why! This young beautiful girl, JUST DIED within the hour of this picture being taken in the arms/vehicle of the man and rescuers trying to help her…💯 truth! HEARTWORMS ARE PREVENTABLE AND DEADLY, YES THEY SUFFER.May she rest in peace and in her next life find a loving, perfect owner who deserves her. I am using her picture as education in her honor. So sorry girl. Five Rivers Animal Aid, Inc. 🩷 See MoreSee Less

Let’s talk canine parvo virus. It’s such a preventable virus with a simple inexpensive vaccine. If your pet gets Parvo, treatment can be very expensive with no guarantee of survival. Puppies are very susceptible! Please read the article below for information on prevention and symptoms. If you feel your pet may be infected with this virus, please seek medical care immediately for your pet. Sadly our RICO fund has dispersed funds towards three dogs this month thus far that were diagnosed with this horrible virus and unfortunately none of the three survived. It’s very important to be knowledgeable. Please keep your pets happy and healthy! www.akc.org/expert-advice/health/parvo-in-puppies/ See MoreSee Less
